Your very special holiday aboard the “Athos” will be an unforgettable experience with exceptionally well appointed accommodation, large and pleasantly appointed deck area, bicycles for all guests, and relaxing walks along the tree-lined tow path. This cruise, on the Canal du Midi in south-west France, offers a truly Mediterranean flavour.

You may have seen this canal featured on the recent television show, “Rick Stein’s French Odyssey”. This 17th century waterway is a tree lined delight from which you will discover a fabulous blend of ancient Gallo- Roman and traditional influences. Fresh seafood and regional specialities with the excellent local Corbières and Minervois wines make an unforgettable selection of meals. This exceptional local cuisine and wines are provided by our private on-board chef, and different delicious cheeses sampled each day.

Excursions include a tour of the medieval city of Carcassonne, wine tasting at a lovely local domaine, a visit to the superb Roman town of Narbonne, the architectural splendour of Pezenas, and the 13th century Cathar hill village of Minerve. During the cruise you will cross the 18th century Orb canal bridge, passage through the eight-flight Fonserannes locks, as well as journey through the “Petit Camargue”, a joy for bird watchers with its pink flamingos.

Four double/twin suites May be either double/twin cabin - these cabins have “stand up” showers in the bathroom.

The barge is decorated in tasteful style with wood panelling and luxury fittings, and spacious salons and deck space. All cabins have private en-suite bathrooms. Bathrooms are very small as would be expected aborad a barge with a confined amount of room, but are nicely appointed with marble fittings and l’Occitane toiletries. Open bar is available 24 hours a day and all meals include premium red & white wines. The only drink not included on the menu is champagne apart from the champagne welcome on arrival.
