New York & New England in the Fall

At a glance

New York City is one of the most incredible, surprising, exciting cities in the world. In NYC there is something for everybody, from the chicest of trendsetters to the more sedate traveller who wishes to explore the architecture and the museums. During our 5 night stay, we will explore cultural New York, discovering the different "villages" that make up this incredible city; the best of the museums, which are unique and extraordinary; the restaurants, which are diverse and delicious; the shows on Broadway that are renowned throughout the world; discover the most spectacular architecture of any capital city in the world; and stay in a superb hotel that encapsulates "old" New York, complete with wonderful service, white gloved elevator attendants and a famous 20's bar.

New England at this time of year is famous for the Fall colours, and they will be a highlight of our next week. The brilliance of stunning landscapes ablaze with brilliant yellow, glowing orange, fiery red and rich brown, interspersed with quaint villages, old-fashioned main streets and village greens with white-steepled churches – The Berkshires region and the "Mohawk Trail" never disappoint. We stay two nights in a country inn that offers the quintessential New England flavour.

On to Boston, an historic city of fascinating contrasts. Old red-brick sidewalks twist past handsome Federalist houses on the way to soaring glass towers housing state-of-the-art technology. Birthplace of John F. Kennedy, home to the beautiful mansions of Beacon Hill, we will also discover the old Italian quarter and the vibrant waterfront district, while staying in a beautiful boutique hotel.

Cape Cod is a superb region that boasts exquisite landscapes, diverse birdlife and wildlife, wonderful architecture and picturesque coastline. Chatham is one of the most delightful of the Cape Cod towns and here we stay for three nights in a romantic sea Captain's estate while exploring the area, including the charming Cape Cod villages and whale watching off the coastline. There will be plenty of opportunity for those who are interested in bird and wildlife to walk some of the beautiful nature reserves.

Our final destination, Rhode Island, is the smallest state in the U.S and one of its greatest highlights is Newport, home of the some of the most magnificent mansions ever to be gathered in one place. On "Golden Mile" we visit the French-style chateau of the Vanderbilts and discover the fascinating history of the property, including life as a servant in such a palace; and Rosecliff, setting of the Great Gatsby. A fabulous cliff walk sees many of the mansions minutes from the splendour of our Victorian mansion hotel – a Relais & Chateaux property. We will also see some of the lovely little villages tucked away throughout the peninsulas and capes of this lovely region.
